For Immediate Release (Dartmouth, NS) In celebration of the Maritime Dance Performance Group’s 100th performance, the Company is delighted to present an upbeat and dynamic contemporary dance showcase titled Pulse on Friday, May 28th at 8:00 PM, and Saturday, May 29th at 2:00 PM & 8:00 PM at Alderney Landing Theatre.  This year's powerful showcase of eleven company commissioned pieces includes eight world premieres.

These brilliant, young dancers will perform original choreography by a number of HRM's finest professional artists including, Jacinte Armstrong, Kendra Armstrong, Rhonda Baker, Cory Bowles, Susanne Chui, Sara Harrigan, Kate Hayter, Kelly Horne Hajar, Ruth-Ellen Kroll Jackson, Véronique MacKenzie, and Kathleen Vessey.

Cory Bowles, well-known for various artistic endeavours as a dancer, choreographer, musician, and actor, has created a cool, jazz inspired piece full of rhythm and swing, while bright legwarmers and eccentric hairstyles lighten the stage as Kate Hayter, Artistic Director of thirtysomething Dance Co-operative, brings the audience back to the 80's with her fun-filled dance to Maniac.

On a softer note, Susanne Chui, co-founder of SINS Dance Collective, depicts a struggling yet beautiful piece in relation to an unsteady, common ground.  Her audience-provoking choreography is bursting with artistic lifts and fast-paced dancing, whereas fellow co-founder of SINS, Jacinte Armstrong, has created a quirky piece in her signature, unpredictable style.

Performance Group welcomes Mocean Dance's Sara Harrigan back into the choreographer line up this season, with her intricate piece on six dancers.  Ruth-Ellen Kroll Jackson, who has been choreographing on Performance Group for the past seven years, will present an attention-grabbing piece on ten dancers, while Kendra Armstrong presents a chilling dance based on the darkest nightmares.

Other highlights of Pulse include new work by Véronique MacKenzie, who was the recipient of the prestigious Established Artist Recognition Award from the Nova Scotia Arts and Culture Partnership Alliance, as well as Certain Within Uncertainty by former company member and 2008 & 2009 Outstanding Achievement Award recipient, Kathleen Vessey.  Vessey presently attends the full time pre-professional program at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks.

This season's show marks not only a major milestone for Performance Group with their 100th performance, but also a shift for the Company as Founder and Artistic Director, Kelly Horne Hajar officially announces that Rhonda Baker, one of the Company's original founding members, and graduate from the School of Toronto Dance Theatre, will be taking over as Artistic Director starting next season.

Join one of the region's most inspirational youth dance companies in celebration of their 100th performance in Halifax Regional Municipality.  Tickets to Pulse are ON SALE NOW through Ticket Pro at 1-888-311-9090 or www.ticketpro.ca, $12 students & seniors, $17 adults.
