The Maritime Dance Performance Group will be holding auditions for their 2010-2011 season, which starts in September 2010, on SUNDAY, MAY 30th.  The Company has established itself over the past eleven years as an organization which provides an innovative environment where talented young dancers can further expand their technical dance training with performance-orientated training and experience given by the most respected teachers and choreographers our community.  Our dancers have received scholarships from the Nova Scotia Talent Trust, and gone on to pursue professional dance careers at prestigious training centers including The School of Toronto Dance Theatre, Decidedly Jazz Danceworks & Concordia University.

Minimum Requirements to Audition:

· Enrolment in 4+ hours/week of technique classes, at least three of which are at Maritime Dance Academy.  (For high school graduates, at least two of the classes must be at Maritime Dance Academy.)  Classes can be in any style of dance (jazz, tap, modern, or ballet) but all Company members are strongly encouraged to take at least one modern technique class, since we are primarily a modern dance company.

· Must be entering at least ITP Level 6 in September 2010.

· Must be able to miss 4-5 days of school between September and June for Performance Group shows.

· Must be available on Sundays from 9:30 am to 5:45 pm.

· Must be able to pay tuition of $80 every 10 weeks.

In addition to the above expectations, all Company members are required to behave in a professional manner in all of their regular dance classes, which they need to attend on a regular basis (defined as more than 70% of the time).  Class attendance is monitored throughout the season.  Dancers must wear appropriate dance attire and their hair secured up to all rehearsals.  This is a group for serious dance students only, who have strong technique and a desire perform, perform, PERFORM!

All Company members (full & apprentice) will be guaranteed performance opportunities during the school tour performances as well as choreography in the Spring Showcase in May 2011.  When casting for any performance, choreographers will take into account a dancer’s attendance, attitude, work ethic, and suitability.  All company members are expected to support and encourage each other resulting in a healthy company atmosphere.

The Audition Process:

1.5 hour modern class with some jazz elements.  Please have bare feet.

A personal interview with the adjudicators.

This is an excellent opportunity for the ‘up-and-coming- stars at Maritime Dance!  Please understand that this is an audition and not all dancers will be accepted at this time.  The decision of the adjudicators is final.  Dancers not accepted this season are encouraged to keep working on their technique, and audition again next season.  This can be a wonderful learning opportunity for all auditionees if it is presented in this manner.

Please email Artistic Director, Kelly Horne Hajar (kelly_horne@yahoo.ca) to register your intent to audition with your name, phone number, email address, and ITP level as of September 2010Best of luck!
